With the National Climate Initiative, the Federal Ministry for the Environment has been driving climate action since 2008. By supporting a diverse range of projects, from strategic planning to on-the-ground initiatives, we’re working towards a more sustainable future.

A variety of perspectives leads to innovative solutions. The National Climate Initiative is fostering a grassroots climate protection movement. From individuals to institutions, everyone stands to gain.

In cooperation with the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Project Management Jülich, the city of Duisburg (Museum of German Inland Shipping, Cultural and Historical Museum) is actively involved in climate protection. In both museums, outdated and defective lighting systems are being replaced with efficient LED systems (KSI: Renovation of the interior and exterior lighting of Duisburg museums, funding reference number: 03K04108, duration 01.07.2016 to 30.06.2017). This results in a reduction of CO2 emissions of approximately 96 tons. (KSI: Renovation of the interior lighting of Duisburg museums, funding reference number: 03K10773, duration 01.03.2019 to 29.02.2020). This results in a reduction of CO2 emissions of approximately 60 tons.
